Qualifications
About myself, Godfrey Bartlett, I have completed a three-year intensive training in Acupuncture and
Traditional Chinese Medicine at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading.
This college is the largest college of acupuncture
in the UK, and is unique in that it teaches a blend of the two major
schools of acupuncture taught in the west - Five Element
constitutional diagnosis and Yin/Yang theory (TCM). In addition to
the professional qualification in Acupuncture, the course included
comprehensive training in core Western Medical Sciences.
After qualifying in the UK, I embarked on a course of Postgraduate study and internship at the Zhejiang
Hospital in Hangzhou,P.R.China which led to the award of an Advanced
Certificate in TCM (Acupuncture,Herbs,Tuina,and Qigong) in 1998.
I am also Editorial Advisor to the Journal of Chinese Medicine (see links)
As a Member of the British Acupuncture Council, the main professional
Acupuncture body in the UK, a thorough and approved training in
Acupuncture is ensured. Members are bound by the Council's code of
ethics and practice and are covered by Professional Indemnity and
Public Liability Insurance. Members are allowed to display the
letters MBAcC after their name.
Style of Practice
Prior to studying Chinese Medicine, I worked in the National Health Service, 8 years of which I was in charge of clinical information and medical audit in a large London hospital. After working with doctors,nurses and paramedics in a hospital setting for many years I have extensive knowledge of standard Western medical practice, and I appreciate its benefits. But I also recognize its limitations and deficits, especially as treatment has become increasingly fragmented, soul-less, and impersonal.
In my practice I strive to bring back the tradition of the caring healer,one who knows and understands his patients, not just their disorders. By offering this highly developed healing system of acupuncture combined with my understanding of the western medical approach, we will work together to heal the 'entire-self', not just treat the symptoms of specific organs and tissues.
